TCP/IP | Different Characteristics of TCP/IP

Following are the different characteristics of TCP/IP

(i) Support from Vendors - TCP / IP receives support from multiple hardware and software vendors, which means that the TCP / IP suite is not committed to a single company's development effort.  Choosing to use TCP/IP over a network is based on the purpose of the network and not the hardware or software that has been purchased.

(ii) Interoperability - These can be used and installed virtually on every platform, this is one of the main reasons by which TCP / IP suite has gained world-class popularity and acceptance.  For example, a UNIX host can communicate using TCP/IP and transfer data to a DOS host or a WINDOWS host.  Host is another name for a computer or device on a network TCP IP removes cross-platform boundaries.

(iii) Flexibility - TCP / IP is a highly flexible protocol suite. The flexibility of TCP IP includes an administrator to expand the address assignment and reassigning.  The administrator can automatically or manually assign an IP address to the host.

(iv) Routability - The limitation of many protocols is the transfer of data from one segment of the network to another.  TCP/IP from one segment of the network to the other or the world The process of routing data from one part of the network to a host on the network to another part of the world is optimized by TCP/IP.
